Two people wake up. Both remember being you. Both think the other person is the copy.
Both remember your childhood bedroom. Both know which apology you never sent. Both can unlock your phone. Both call your mother by the name only you use.
00:00
A and B wake at the same time.
ARemembers your entire past.
BRemembers your entire past.
The system insists that only one legal identity can keep your name. Who gets it?
Now bring in someone who loves you
Now someone who loves you walks in.
They look at both faces and hear the same private memories. A remembers the first date. B remembers it too. Neither is pretending.
An hour later
An hour later, B does something A would never do.
Then the lab admits something
The technician finally tells you the part they hid.
No body came first. One scan produced both. A and B were labels added afterwards because the form had two empty boxes.
Teleporter
One last machine. This time there is no room for two.
The machine destroys the body here and rebuilds it on Mars. The person on Mars opens their eyes mid-sentence and insists nothing happened except travel.
Where did you finally draw the line?
What the machine still cannot answer
A perfect copy can look like you from the outside. That still does not tell us whether your point of view continued inside it.
The machine can copy memory, voice, habits, love and history. It still cannot show what happened to the point of view saying, “I am here.” Did that continue, split, end, or begin again?
